Clubs :)

Two weeks ago the best thing about Early College happened. We are now able to have clubs!!! There were so many awesome clubs to choose from, like F.O.R. Club, Service Club, Line Dancing Club, Technology Club, Debate team, Music, and many more. We all got to choose two different clubs to go to. I decided to go with F.O.R. Club and Line Dance.

I loved the message the F.O.R. Club offers of a no bullying school. I think this is good for our school because Gaston County has really bad bullying problems at some schools. We are going to start doing projects like Spirit Week, or have a compliment box, and other amazing ideas. The school is going to need to work together if we want to accomplish anything.

The Line Dance Club is my other club. I love to dance and just be silly so this club is for me. I took this class with Mrs. Waldrop over the summer with Commissioner's School and loved every single minute of it. Line dance mixes my two loves, country music and being silly. We always have a good time in her club and we always have awesome music. The music is modern country music which I love. Line dancing is best to do in boots but I don't have any :( I'm trying to get some for Christmas but my mom doesn't want me to get any because she doesn't they look cute.

Remix Blogs: Being Yourself

One of the things I love to talk about the most is being yourself. Today I'm going to make it easier to be yourself and not be scared. I once was scared to be myself  but now I realize how important it is to act like yourself. think it is important to love yourself for who you are and not to neglect telling people about yourself.

Being yourself is the best thing you could do right now because this time is really when people will learn to like you for who you are not what you act like.

Some people in our class right now are having trouble getting this through their heads. They act so rude and basically bully everyone that isn't in their clique. I mean like seriously grow up and get out of middle school and act like you have some sense. Sometimes I seriously wonder about these people and what made them so rude to people. That cannot be seriously how they act in real life around their parents.

I don't think anyone should be told how to dress, or what they should look like, or why they can't be part of a certain crowd, or discriminated in any way, shape, or form.  If you discriminate against someone because of that it is just a horribly wrong thing to do. No one should have that done to them for any reason at all.

I think kids today have a hard time being themselves and liking who they are and what they look like. Society has many pre designed ways of how thing and people should look. If I ran society people could look however they wanted and how ever they feel comfortable with themselves in.

You should start being yourself because when you go to a highschool reunion do you wanna be recognized as the girl who was fake all the time just to impress people, or do you want to be remembered by your kindness and outgoing personality.

I often think of this picture. People are so busy trying to impress others they forget what makes them happy in life. If you would just stop and be yourself genuine people will love you for who you are.

One of my biggest beliefs in life is to be yourself. I think you should start believing this also because it will give you much better friends in life and friendships that will last forever.

I admit, I have lost who I am because I wanted to impress people. That was probably the worst time of my life, having to change the way I was just to impress people was a horrible mistake. Those people were so rude to me and I just took it because I wanted to be part of the popular crowd. The popular crowd isn't fun at all, I had to learn that the hard way.  Now that I know who I am I am much much happier and I have some really good friends. They accept me for me and that is really what I'm trying to say is just to be yourself so you can reap the rewards of being yourself. It may be hard at first but you will find friends who are much like you :)

Public Speaking

Have you ever won an award you really wanted? Well this week in public speaking class we can experience that for ourselves.  Our speech for this and week is going to be giving a presentation of an award and getting an award we made up for ourselves. We have to have a partner to do this, mine is Tyler, he gets to present me with the Dedicated Best Friend Award.  I made this award up to honor best friends forever.

Making up an award for myself was really hard because I don't think I am good at really anything, but when I asked my best friend she told me how good of a friend I was and I should do something along those lines.

When I sat down and thought about it I really liked her idea because I do think I am a really good friend. One of the qualifications for the award is to have eaten 13 pints of Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia ice cream. That is our favorite flavor to eat after one of us has had a nasty break up or when we just feel like eating it :)

This week I really hope I do good because if I don't then what good of a friend will I be?

Some of my Favorite Bands

My iPod has everything from The Beatles to Bon Jovi to Blake Shelton to Theory of a Deadman to Mac Miller. :) These are just a few of my favorite people to listen to. I love every type of music really. 

Growing up in a home with a dad born in the sixties and a mom born in the seventies who bot listened to eighties rock bands I have an eclectic blend of music liking. 

The Beatles are like the fathers of classic rock :). Some of my favorite songs buy them include Hard Days Night, Hey Jude, Penny Lane, Elenore Rigby, and by far my all time favorite, Let It Be. Even though one half of the legendary band are not with us anymore :'( they still are one of the most listened to band of all time.

Bon Jovi is perhaps my favorite eighties hair and rock band. I still listen to Bon Jovi today and only like a couple of songs by them. Wanted Dead or Alive, Bad Medicine, Livin' On A Prayer, and a couple of others are songs I live by most days.

Blake Shelton don't even get me started :). Other than being amazingly cute he is an amazing singer. He is currently CMAs Male Vocalist of the Year and is almost a married man for a year:(  Miranda Lambert is such a lucky girl. Blake mixes his country sweetheart style with rock influences making hits like Over, God Gave Me You, Red, Austin, and a cover of Footloose in the newly remade movie.

Mac Miller is amazing :) even though I can't play any of his music on school property he was amazing. Me and my biff, Susan, love to crank his music up extremely loud when we ride together somewhere :) My favorite songs by him are Frick Park Market, Loud, All Day, Donald trump, Knock Knock, Party on Fifth Ave., and Smile Back. really we love any song by him and love all of his songs.

Theory of a Deadman is another band I can't really play on school property but they are awesome too :) Even though they were introduced to me in a really bad and sad way, they have become almost a part of my everyday life. They are the best band for break ups and cheating, they really sing a lot about these things and it makes you feel a little better after a messy break up. trust me been there done that, but they really are an awesome band.

My Best Friend

This week, I have decided to talk about my best friend. This girl is amazing and helps me through everything I have. Susan is sixteen, goes to North Gaston, plays softball with me at our churches league, and loves to be crazy, loud, and wild like me .

I met Susan almost three years ago on Halloween at my church and we have been instant besties ever since.We are basically joined at the hip, and do everything together.

Spending time together listening to Mac Miller and driving around places is one of  our favorite things to do together. We love Mac Miller and our favorite album is Blue Slide Park. We love to go to Frick Park Market and love to go to Parties on Fifth Ave..

Susan is amazing, she is always there for me through everything I've ever had. We help each other through horrible break ups with pints of Starbucks ice cream I might add :) Even though we;ve gotten in fights before nothing can break us apart. We will always be together no matter what, we are the perfect best friends.

Over the summer, we went to a youth camp and had the best time of our lives :) we grew closer together and loved going down to the beach. The beach is the best place to go because we can tan, swim, and look at amazingly cute guys. Both of us love to be tan and look at guys.

I hope people are able to find a friend like Susan, so they feel like they have somewhere to confide and tell all their secrets too. I know I would not make it if someone did not know all my secrets.

9/11 Found Poem

We Won't Forget

This memorial is absolutely breathe taking. I believe it captures the grief of the grief of people but yet takes them to a calm, peaceful place. The water I believe is almost like saying give me all your griefs and let me take them. Although you won't forget 9/11 let me help ease your oain, I'll take to sadness away and bring you closure. 

The people who died are remembered in a magical way. The engraving of names near friends or co workers was ingenious.You get a sense of knowing they are with the people they loved to be around at work.

I think people are going to go there because they want to remember and to try and bring new associations to the place instead of just sadness, grief, and death. With it being a park people will hopefully have happy times there but also remember the tragedy that was thrust upon the city not long ago.

September 11th

Today is the 11th anniversary of maybe the scariest moment in America today. Eleven years ago four hijacked planes were on a collision course with some of the most populated building in America. To the world it was just a normal day, all that changed around 8:45 when a plane crashed into the North Twin Tower in New York City. Following barely fifteen minutes behind another plane struck the South Tower, later causing it to collapse killing many inside. A third plane hit the Pentagon in nearby Virginia, making the building erupt into flames. The fourth and final hijacked plane was shot down and crashed in a field....that plane was headed for The White House.

The city of New York was covering in a blanket of ashes that many say looked like snow. Many people did not survive that day, whether it be people who worked in the Towers or the brave service men and women, or the fire crews who went to rescue people....many perished.

Even though I was just four when it happened 9/11 could have really affected my life. My dad drives a tractor trailer and that morning he ended up being late to pick up his delivery...he was going to Virginia right near the Pentagon. If he had left that might have been the last day I could have seen my daddy. It pains me to know some people weren't that lucky and weren't just running late but were doing their job and had disaster thrust upon them.

Now that I am older I can understand the situation a little better, and to think people would be so cruel as taking thousands of lives without even taking a second thought sickens me.

People don't need to forget the many lives lost that day.

The Uglies: Continued

This week, I am continuing to read The Uglies.  So far, this book has been very interesting. I like the differences of both Prettyville and Uglyville. In Uglyville people are always hiding and they can't do much but in Prettyville,they have parties almost every night and most times all night long.

This book so far is good. It has an interesting control quality to it, where a certain group of people are trying to control how everyone looks in the world. In some ways I think the book is like The Hunger Games, in the Games people try and control what Districts can and cannot do.

I think it is important for people to choose how they look. In the book not even the Uglies can choose what the doctors change them as.  The doctors have free range of what they want everyone to look like.

To me I don't know what I would do if I couldn't choose the way I wanted to look and had to be fake like everyone else.

I know I may not be perfect but I'm not fake.

When I think of this book, I often think of this picture. The people in the book in order to be a Pretty it's almost like they are transforming you into a Barbie doll. Some of the people actually want to be Barbies in the book but others are hesitant about it. They are worried that when they are changed it  will changed their who personality.

In all I think girls and guys could learn something about this book in the fact that, no matter who you are you can be beautiful without being changed into a Barbie. It's your heart and your personality that make you who you are and should truly have people to like you for.

The Uglies

Today I started to read The Uglies. I had heard about these books before and thought I'd like to read them but never really did. Today I finally started reading it...well only because I didn't have anything else to read.

The book takes place more in the future where people get surgically changed to make them a "pretty" if you are not a "pretty" then you're considered an "ugly". "Uglies" are not allowed to go out anywhere except for at night. If an "ugly" gets caught outside they are punished.

Meat Allergies from Ticks

This week we read an article about a young woman getting bitten by a tick and weeks afterward coming up with an allergy to meat. She ate a hamburger coming back from a trip and when she arrived home basically went into anaphylactic shock. She is a southern girl like me and hey there's no denying we love our meat.

I could not imagine a world without meat. Humans are made to be carnivores. They're exceptions like people who are vegetarians but they made the choice not to eat meat for whatever reason in their life. This is extremely rare but cases are usually limited to the South Eastern United States and Australia. She has almost no idea how she got this meat allergy other than the fact she got bitten by a Lone Star tick.

This must have been really puzzling for her. I mean to go away for a couple of weeks and then come back and not be able to eat something you love must come as unusual. There is probably a lot of stress about what you can and can't eat and eating things that are still good for you and will give you the nutrients you need to live a healthy life.

I don't really feel anything about this article in the sense that it was just and article and it didn't really give me any feeling. 

Public Speaking

I hate public speaking! I don't like to get in front of people and have to talk. This week we have to present a famous speech. I am not at all ready for this speech at all!!!!!!!I am so nervous about doing this speech the very thought of it gives me butterflies.

Speaking for me is not easy. I have a thick accent so I pronounce words differently than the people here.

My speech is by Emma Goldman. She gave this speech to a court jury in New York. Emma and he lover, Alexander Berkman, were being tried for propagating ideas to the public about not joining the draft for World War I. Berkman and Goldman had been in jail many times before this because they were Anarchists who challenged everything. 

In her speech Goldman uses Jesus as an example a lot. She argues Jesus was never within the law of his time yet still "lives" today as a symbol among many other "criminals" for making a difference in their time period. She believes it is her right to tell people not to register for the draft. Which in a way it is, she is just practicing her First Amendment rights.

After her speech to the jury they found she was guilty and Goldman and her lover Berkman were sentenced to two years in prison.

I am just hoping I actually get the part right I have chosen to say. I have some major trouble with the first part but the second part I can say almost by heart.

Yesterday, I finally said my speech. before going up to speak I got incredibly nervous and started forgetting all my lines.  Once I calmed down and started my speech I was okay and actually did quite well I must say.

This quote is among my favorites because well for one Jesus said it in the Bible, and the fact that no matter what if you truly love somebody then your love for each other will never fail and you will find ways to be together if you really are serious. I am in this very situation and it pains me when I can't see him like I want to because he works and volunteers as a firefighter =, but we find ways to make everything work.

I love this quote because if you fall in love with your best friend well it just seems a little easier. They already know everything good and bad a bout you so you have a closeness with them that no one can break apart.

A Little Brown Dog

This week in class we read a really sad story called A Little Brown Dog. This story almost made me cry as I read how the little dog was first beaten by his soon to be owner and then abused by the little boys' dad. The puppy was so forgiving of his new family that it cost him his life on a very sad day. The little boys father happened to be an abusive drunk and he would kick the dog around the house like a rug. The day the poor puppy got killed the father had kicked it, beaten it, and then he through it out a five story high window.

As an avid animal lover this story broke my heart. At home I have had three cats, two frogs, fish, and the newest member to our little family, a bearded dragon named Godzilla until we can figure out if it's a boy or a girl.

Animals should not be treated like they are nothing. They love without being able to talk to or get to know you before you get them. They love you almost instantly because they want someone to love them back.

Having a pet is good for you in many ways. They help you learn responsibility, calm your nerves when you are angry, and just give you a companion if you live alone. I had to become very responsible when I got my first little kitty, named Summerville after the town I was born in but now we just called he Leeta. Even though I was just a baby when I got her Momma still had me try and feed her, although sometimes I would eat the food myself....but hey I was three I didn't know it tasted yucky. When I'm home alone Leeta will come sit with me on my bed and just purr and fall asleep because she doesn't want either of us to be alone.

Am I Blue?

This week I am reading Am I Blue? The book is a collection of stories about being gay, lesbian, and the many other things you could be. Most of the stories talk about people who are afraid to come out or bullied because they are out. A lot of friends I have are gay or tired to be gay in the past. I don't judge them because of this I just seem them for who they are and they are amazing. People shouldn't be bullied because they are different than other people.

My favorite short story from the book is by Bruce Coville. It's about a kid who hasn't told anyone he's gay yet and gets beaten up when he does. He then gets a Fairy Godfather who died from being beaten up because he was gay. The Fairy Godfather turns everyone that is gay blue. Almost everyone they see has some type of blue tint to them. He then sees that its okay to be different and accepts himself for who he is.

I read

This week I finished The Hunger Games. This series is quite possibly my FAVORITE series ever! I may say that about every book or series I read but this time I'm serious. The book is about two teenagers who are thrown into a bloodbath. Throughout the book Katniss and Peeta, the main characters, are the star crossed lovers as every book has and they have to make it out alive, but there' a catch....only one person is allowed out alive. The sadistic people who came up with these Games decide the Katniss and Peeta must come out alive together. I believe this book deals with a lot of issue in today’s world. The government over all the Districts is much like a dictatorship. There are 12 Districts, they range from the rich of the rich to the poorest of the poor. District 12 is the poorest district of all. Sometimes they fall victim for nothing, they are scapegoats for everything that happens almost. I ee them much like the Jews in World War II. Hitler made it seem like the Jews were to blame for everything, and in many ways the citizens of District 12 are treated the same way. I love this book because it is the perfect mix of love, action, a community coming together to help out people that live there, and friendship. Along the way many old friends become better friends and new friends get introduced. Although many friends are killed because that is the context of the games they are not forgotten by Katniss and Peeta. I think this book is amazing for all ages to read although it is a little scary at some parts. *WARNING* Do NOT watch the movie first before reading the book you will miss out on very good things!!

In Class

Not much has happened in class this week because it was the first week of school. Right now the class I like the most is Algebra II. The teacher in Algebra is awesome and she really tries to help you understand things. A lot of times I suck at math but this year I really think I might do good this year. Thi definately makes me very very happy. I think I will do good in math because our class is small so we haave more one on one teacher time.

Planet Earth is Fed Up! (We Read)

The article we read in class today was birdbrained in many ways. It was about humanity mistreating the Earth. The Earth in turn tried to kill some of the people living here with natural disasters hoping people would get the hint and leave. I will review some of the very silly things the Earth told us.

"I haven't exactly been subtle about it, you realize. I have literally tried to drown you, crush you, starve you, dehydrate you, pump you full of diseases, and suck your homes and families into swirling vortices of death. Honestly, what more is it going to take for you people to get the message?"
 

The quote above is by the Earth, I believe the Earth is saying I've done all these horrible things to you but yet you still don't leave. In this case the Earth is almost abusing us with natural disasters as pay back for us abusing us. This is silly because, of course the Earth doesn't intentionally send natural disasters to harm us. Natural disasters are almost random although they do have seasons.

"I know your species has developed the technology to leave me, I've seen you use it before, so I'm asking you now, please, just take the hint already,"..."trundle off to some other biosphere for a while." "You can't possibly be enjoying this, can you? Honestly, you would have to be completely deranged or masochistic to continue staying here."
 

Yet another quote has been made by Earth urging us to just get off! The Earth is trying to talk to us which is very childish in this story. Everybody knows the Earth cannot talk to us at all.

I hope my blog has enlightened you on this very stupid story because I was lost in it very much.

Who am I you may ask well I am just plain and simple me. I love music, baking, reading, and spending time with my friends. I also love to post random pictures and other things about the way I may be feeling that day. I'm 15 and I come from a little town in South Carolina called Summerville. I love visiting the south every year for the summer or holidays. Most of who I am comes from being with family down there. But, when I'm not with family I am goofing off with my crazy friends.

My best friend, well shes really like my unbiological sister, is Susan. She'll be a Junior at North Gaston soon and we are joined at the hip. We love to go fourwheeling together, shop, hang out at football games, and goof off with our church youth group.

I'm an avid reader, my favorite kind of books are teen fiction and of course anything that deals with a love story. By far my favorite book is Romiette and Julio, the book is a teen version of the classic Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare. I have loved to read since I could really, I taught myself how to read the book Goodnight Moon at the age of three and have loved books ever since.

I want to be a business owner when I get older. I hope to go on from the Early College program and get a business and culinary arts degree. The baking side of me really came from my grandma, on Thanksgiving and Christmas we're always in the kitchen baking. One of my favorites we make is a Nilla Wafer Cake, which is by far the heaviest cake in all the world.

I always have headphones in my ears. I am also forever getting in trouble because I listen to music way too much and to my moms standards it's way too loud. Music is something I get from my daddy, he always would listen to music around me so I grew to love it. He introduced me to a lot of bands like The Beatles, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, well basically all the rock bands of the 80's and a couple of 60's bands too. Music helps me drown out the world somedays, tell what my mood is the, next but most of all just lets me relax.
